What is Myia and how does this work?

Myia is the world’s most advanced business-to-business/consumer conversational commerce platform.

What does this mean to you? It means that Myia uses your personal data to match you to a better energy price and plan.

Myia gains the data by asking you short, simple questions. These questions are never asked twice, with Myia always remembering your answers.

How does Myia find the best deal for me?

Myia takes out the time, hassle and effort of switching energy supplier.

You will initially be asked some simple questions on registration so that Myia can start working for you. These include where you live, your energy provider and your current tariff.

Myia then scans the entire market to find the best deal for you. This is done by using Ofgem certified data, as well as APIs from energy price comparison site Myutilitygenius.

Myia is also able to use the power of the crowd to negotiate exclusive deals for registered consumers that are not available on the standard market.

How much might Myia save me?

Already launched in New Zealand, it is saving consumers an average of 10-15% on their gas and electricity bills, though we expect this figure to be higher for UK consumers given lower switching rates in the UK.

Do I have to pay for the service?

No — the service is free for consumers. There are no charges.

How does Myia make money?

Myia charges the energy retailer a fee for acquiring or retaining a customer. Myia scans the entire market and brings back better prices and plans working on your behalf even if we don’t make money from that specific energy retailer.

Is my data secure?

Yes, your data is secure. We don't pass on your data to anyone without your permission, and then it's only to energy service providers, in order to find the best deal for you.

Your data is securely encrypted and remains encrypted, even when shared with energy service providers.

What’s the catch?

There is no catch! Myia works on your behalf to make your life easier and to save you money.

Is Myia active anywhere else?

Myia has already launched in New Zealand (where it Myia is instead known as Frank). Frank works with Saveawatt, a fourth party energy broker, helping New Zealanders save an average of 10-15% on their electricity bills.

Where is Myia going next?

Following our launch in the UK, we are next rolling out to Australia, USA and Germany.

What other skills does Myia have?

Myia is being trained for many other tasks. Currently learning about banking, insurance, retail, health and wellness in conjunction with big enterprise brands.

How does Myia help energy retailers?

Myia helps both parties. The inefficiency of the energy market costs both consumers and retailers.

We work with energy retailers by providing intelligent dashboards that provide highly detailed information on their customer-base and the market.

This means that energy retailers will have more insight into dynamic market pricing and consumer preferences. They can therefore provide more relevant offers, promotions and additional services to customers.

How did Myia start?

The idea for Myia began in Middle Earth — or, more precisely, on a sheep station in Queenstown, New Zealand, the film location for the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings.

We brought together a team to our high-tech barn and Geraldine McBride, MyWave’s founder, presented a concept of flipping the old world model on its head. This would see more power put into the hands of the consumer through using their data to achieve better deals.

We then formed a development center in downtown Melbourne, Australia, near great coffee shops and tram-lines. From here we spent two years building and developing our product, before launching in New Zealand.

What is MyWave?

MyWave is the company behind Myia. We began in 2013 with the idea of flipping the old world model of commerce on its head. We do this through putting more power in the hands of the consumer, enabling them to use their personal data to get better deals.

This is achieved through combining machine learning, data and commerce to get better outcomes for people and brands. This creates mutual value.

We are headquartered in New Zealand, with bases in Melbourne, San Francisco and London.

Geraldine McBride, founder, is an acknowledged digital strategist and futurist. She has worked in the IT Industry for over 27 years and most recently worked as President for SAP North America. James Ladd, CTO, is also highly respected in the IT industry, possessing over 30 years of development experience.
